VC Update - it's getting close!

Here are some updates for everyone:

VC is about 2 weeks away. If you have never been to the chatroom where the classes are held, you might want to stop by for our weekly chat and see how it works. The chat is tomorrow at 9 pm EST. The address and password to the chatroom was sent to everyone in an email - look for the info there.

REMINDER: This chatroom is for VC members ONLY. Anyone passing along the address to the chatroom or the password will be removed from the VC group.

Classes this year promise to be great so have your supplies ready! Supply lists can be found on the blog at http://virtualconvention.blogspot.com

Sign up also for our new site - we have lots of cool things there including a lot of artwork being posted! This new site will also be the home of our 2nd VC chatroom where you can hang out with other members between classes and just get to know one another, etc....

The address to the new site is http://ctmhvirtualconvention.ning.com

LASTLY - we NEED a couple of people to help oversee the classes on Thursday and Friday morning!! Cheree will not be available and I work every morning and will not be online until early afternoon. I can pop in a bit from work but really shouldn't so if you can help, it's easy and fun! All that is needed is someone to clear the chatroom before each class, introduce the teacher of the class, and then just keep an eye open and make sure there are no disruptions in the class so the teacher can get her info shared.

If you can help out, please contact me or Cheree right away!!!!!! I NEED YOU!!!!! And you know I wouldn't ask if it wasn't important so if you can help me out this time, please contact me!

Updated Supply Lists and more

I have added a couple more class supply lists to the VC Class page so be sure to check that out. I will try to add pictures of the class projects as I get them.

I will also be adding the class directions soon and you will have access to that information a few days before VC and long after VC is over, in case you miss the class itself.

T-shirts have been ordered and will be mailed out mid July to those who purchased one. Cheree will have goody boxes going out about July 20th so you have them in time for VC week.

If anyone is planning on attending most of the VC classes, I need an assistant to save the classroom chat transcripts. It's easy and requires only knowing how to copy and paste. Let me know if you're interested.

That's it for now - have a great week!

Updates to Supply Lists

Just to let you know, I have updated the class schedule (had a change to make) and added a couple more class supply lists to the VC Class page. I think the class list looks awesome! Can't wait to learn some new things!!!

Class schedule and supply lists now up!

I have started a page for the VC Class Schedule and Supply Lists which you can find HERE or through the link in the sidebar. This page will be updated as needed and will also be home to the class outlines/descriptions the week of VC.

For those of you new to VC (and as a refresher for others) all VC classes are held in a chatroom online. You will receive the chatroom address and password by email in the coming weeks. This is for VC MEMBERS ONLY! We do not restrict membership (except that you must be a consultant) and all consultants are welcome to join VC so these classes are for members only. Please keep this in mind and do not share the chatroom address and password outside of VC.

Classes are conducted by chat - basically, as a "student" you will be reading along with the "teacher" as she describes her project/idea. It's a fun and easy way to learn something new, have a good time and get to know other consultants. You do not need to sign up for a class - just join in as your schedule allows. I hope many of you will plan on attending these awesome classes!

One final note: You will notice in some of the posts below, pictures have been removed. I have contacted the author of these posts to see if we can get these restored so please be patient while we find a solution. Thank you.

Hostess Helps & Hints

from Sarah Gruber (via Christine Moya Moss)

Hostess Helps & Hints
Review Your Hostess Party To Go Box and write down any questions you have…call me or email me. I am here to help!
  • Write a list of everyone you know and OVER-INVITE! You should invite people who may be unfamiliar with scrapbooking, card making, etc., but who may be eager to learn new skills and ideas.
  • Extend initial invitations to your Gathering over the phone or in person.
  • Send the postcard as a reminder, not as the only invitation, 10 days before the Gathering date.
  • Explain to your guests what will happen at the Gathering so they know what to expect.
  • Carry your Idea Book with you everywhere and point out your favorite products, highlighting the stamps that will be used at the Gathering
  • Carry a sample Create & Take project with you to show off and get people excited about it.
  • Call each guest the day before the Gathering, reminding her of what she can look forward to at the event. Also remind everyone to bring a friend!
  • See opportunities to collect outside orders.
  • MAKE A WISH LIST!

Blog and shirt update

There have been a couple of updates to the blog including a Donate button in the right sidebar. Why donate to VC? With your donation of $5.00, we can provide prizes for contests and such during the week of VC. Your donation also helps with thank you gifts for VC list helpers, extra postage to mail these items and more. If you have donated in past years, thank you! Please consider donating this year to help with expenses as well. The Donate button will take you straight to Pay Pal where you can enter the amount of your donation.

T-shirt sales are in full swing! The saying on the shirts will be "Scrapbook your past; let it shine on future generations." The shirts will be a beautiful golden yellow color (Honey) to reflect our call to Shine in '09! Sizes available are small-5X and shirts are just $15.00, which includes shipping. Please your order today by emailing me your request along with your size and address. My email is mbryt1@bex.net

We also have a couple of members who will be helping with the blog by posting artwork, maybe a challenge, ideas, etc.... but they can't do their job without YOU! So if you have any artwork to share or a technique or a challenge or a great photo - anything you think the VC group would love to see - email it to Jen at jmcgee46@yahoo.com or Betsey at betseyterry@sbcglobal.net. Let's get this party started!!!!!

A New Look for 2009!

Welcome to the new updated VC blog!

We still have some tweaks to put into place but this will be the place to visit daily and see just what is new!

Easiest way to track when the blog is updated is to Subscribe - see the info in the sidebar - over there --------->

You can also become a Follower, also in the sidebar.

We will be posting info, updates about things like t-shirt sales, class schedules and supply lists and much more! We would also like to post YOUR artwork! What we need to get started is 2-3 people who are already familiar with Blogger to help us collect and post artwork. If you are interested, email Mary at mbryt1@bex.net.

Until we get new artwork posted, enjoy the older posts from the past VC Design Teams!

Have a great weekend everyone!

More Recycling!

OK, I have 5 kids and LOTS of pictures. I also have LOTS of old frames and mats around. The kids are growing and my house decor is changing, and I don't necessarily need those old mats anymore. So.....I've started to make bulletin boards out of the old mats.

I remove the frame and go and buy adhesive (or non-adhesive) cork board. I measure and cut the cork board to make sure it will fit in the window of the mat leaving about an inch border to make sure it sticks really well to the back of the mat(if using non-adhesive cork board). Next lay the mat on top of poster board and trace the mat frame onto the poster board. Cut it out. Use spray adhesive to attach the cork board to the poster board. Then use more spray adhesive on the back of the mat and then lay the cork/poster board onto the back of the mat.

If you have adhesive cork board, cut it to be about 1" bigger than the mat opening. Next lay the mat on top of poster board and trace the mat frame onto the poster board. Cut it out. Attach adhesive cork to the front of the poster board. Spray craft adhesive around the back of the mat and then lay the cork/poster board onto the back of the mat.

I measure the length and width of each side of the mat and then cut some patterned paper to match the measurements. Glue the paper onto the front of the mat.

* I have also stamped around the mat AND/OR just distressed the edges with ink so most of the mat color shows.

Decorate the bulletin board with stickease, stamps, stickers or whatever embellishments you choose to show your creativity. Use your crop o'dile to punch holes on the top of the bulletin board, and tie a ribbon to hold the bulletin board on the wall. OR add your own mounting bracket OR use some other material to hang it up.

You can easily turn those old tacks into new ones to match your new bulletin board and carry through the recycling theme. I've used glue dots and added rhinestones to the tops of the tacks. Use liquid glass to cover the tack head and then add glitter or flocking to it. Find some clear round, flat rocks and decorate them (see last months magnet idea) and instead of putting a magnet on the back, put a tack! These are so fun to make and so far people are really enjoying them. Share your recycling ideas with us! Try one of my ideas, or share on of your own. I look forward to seeing what you come up with! Happy recycling/scrapping!

Re-Poll (I'm So Sorry!) Please re-vote!!!

Somehow when I created the last poll and I added enough fields, it deleted 2 of our artists and I didn't even notice! My sincere apologies to Jen Dant and Mary Vogel (Jen is actually in my DL and I am so embarrased I could die! Jen, you should have kicked me!!! We actually talked about it and you didn't even tell me!!!) I'm so sorry to all the artists and the voters.

Here is the NEW POLL with all 7 artists (if not I give up!) I've extended the voting, so please re-vote! I need you all because I honestly could not pick a favorite! Please help me!
